Future Meadows @ DesignPhiladelphiaFuture Meadows @ DesignPhiladelphia

Margie Ruddick and the Action Mill invite you to celebrate our urban wilds.

BoutonniereThursday, October 13 from 7 - 9pm at 319 N. 11 St., Philadelphia PA 19107

Crickets, butterflies, mourning doves, goldenrod, paulownia trees, mullein... Did you know that there is a vibrant, thriving meadow atop the Reading Viaduct in Philadelphia?

The Action Mill is excited to present “Future Meadows”, a new project for DesignPhiladelphia which we have created in collaboration with internationally acclaimed landscape designer, Margie Ruddick. The Reading Viaduct meadows are already an important part of a much larger living ecosystem in Philadelphia that includes several miles of naturally occurring grasses, perennials and shrubs running throughout the city. The Action Mill has partnered with Margie Ruddick to discover the meadows along the viaduct with the goal of provoking the public to become stewards of this network of marvelous urban wilds. We invite you to come collect a specially crafted boutonniere made from harvested pioneer plants and learn about the value of urban plant succession while helping to disperse (literally) the seeds to cultivate future meadows.

The event will be held in conjunction with the DesignPhiladelphia kick-off party on Thursday, October 13 from 7 - 9pm at 319 N. 11 St. This event is free and open to the public. Hope to see you there!
