Things are out of whack. It hurts just to move around. It's been like this for a while now and it doesn't seem to be getting better.
When our bodies are out of alignment there are different approaches we use to get better. One way we do this is by using orthotics. Orthotics are tools that restrict certain movements and support others. Orthotics set limits and boundaries. They help us practice and reinforce new ways to move that become habits.
This may be a useful way to think about our practice. We are experts in team and system orthotics. Fact is, things are out of whack but you don't need a solution that throws out everything and treats you and your team as a set of problems. You have strengths and resources and you’ve proven you are capable of good work. It is just not all coming together right now and there is a lot of pain rather than the pleasure that comes from doing good work well.
Some voices are telling you to do more and do it harder and longer. Other voices are saying that if you could just take a break maybe you could figure it out. Orthotics moves us in a different direction-—they help us set specific limits to things like how long your meetings take, how often and how late you check email, how late you stay awake. The limits allow you to meet the needs of both voices. You get the time you need to reflect and figure things out, and the time you need to focus and get into a rhythm that works for you and your team. Rather than being stuck by doing too much or giving up, organizational orthotics helps you arrive at a place that supports you where you are now and where you want to be tomorrow.
Similar to orthotics for your body, this is done by fitting new tools to your life, team and organization. We have a set of tools that are shareable and a set of principles and skills that are transferable. You don't get the benefits from them by taking them as they are—they need to fit the contours of your unique situation. Like an orthotics insert in your shoe they are molded to who you are. You benefit from our practice by using our tools, first with us and then on your own, with your team, and your organization.
We provide tools that restrain certain behaviors and encourage others. We customize these tools to fit you and your team, so you can create new and repeatable behaviors.
